SATURN I 5702 GN PNP

DESCRIPTION

The SATURN I 5702 GN systems are designed to be used for Radiological Monitoring in Research Centers and Nuclear Plants, and for Environmental Monitoring and Radiological Monitoring for Nuclear Medicine Laboratories.

SATURN I 5702 GN PNP is a modular system which can monitor gamma and neutron radioactivity levels in pulsed fields。

The ICP-PF series gamma probes are based on the CENTRONIC IG5 detector, or alternatively the IG5T which extends the energy range down to 35 keV instead of 80 keV。 The LUPIN 5401 neutron probe is based on the CENTRONIC SP9 (He3) or BF3 15 EB 20/25M (BF3); it is a new-developed and innovative neutron probe specifically designed to monitor pulsed neutron fields。

The system can be connected to a host PC which can manage the data acquisition and display, through an user-friendly software (5700 SMON).

The mechanical structure of SATURN I 5702 GN PNP consist in a trolley with lockable wheels for easy and practical positioning, and it is composed of a standard 19” Rack hosting the following main parts:

• Gamma radiation detection unit

• Neutron detection unit

• Acquisition and control unit

• Alarm beacon

 

Gamma Radiation Detection Unit with CENTRONIC Ionization Chamber: ICP-PF series  

• Detector: CENTRONIC Pressurized Ionization Chamber, IG5 (A6.4/N.9.6) or IG5T  (A12/N3) models

• Energy range: From 80 keV to 10 MeV (IG5), from 35 keV to 10 MeV (IG5T) 

• Energy response: ± 20% from 35 keV to 120 keV  ± 5% from 120 keV to 2 MeV

• Dose rate range: 7 decades range electrometer for pulsed fields applications (from 10 nSv/h to 0,1 Sv/h)

• Accuracy: ± 5% at environmental background level

Neutron Detection Unit: LUPIN 5401 BF3-NP / HE3-NP

• Detector: Neutron proportional counter type He3 or BF3 

• Moderator: Spherical (He3) or cylindrical (BF3), made of polyethylene 

• Energy Range: From thermal up to 20 MeV, optionally extendable up to 5 GeV 

• Dose rate range: From 10 nSv/h to 100 mSv/h

 

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS ICP Series Probes:

All models are supplied together with ELSE NUCLEAR’s state-of-the-art HV and electrometer boards,

providing power supply, signal acquisition and processing。

The ICP-PF and ICP-T-PF versions are specifically designed to measure very high-level pulsed radiation fields, such as those generated by synchrotrons and other accelerators.  

• Dimensions: Ø 184 mm, H = 460 mm

• Electronics characteristics:

o 7 decades electrometer (pulsed fields monitoring) with automatic scale change (upon request, a 9 decades electrometer for continuous fields monitoring is available)

  o Digital setting of calibration parameters  o Low-noise HV circuit: 0  1,3 kV digital control Typical performances with pulsed beams  • Pulsed field setup

o 70 ns pulse length, 10 Hz repetition frequency, number of pulses: 1, 2, 10 with Linac currents 1, 2, 5, 10 and 15 mA

• Performances:

  o Single pulse detection up to 3,5 nC/pulse ~ 4,3 Gy/pulse (*) (*) test carried out at Elettra – Trieste Synchrotron “Development and Experimental Performance Evaluation of a Dose-Rate meter for Pulsed Beam”- RadSynch 2009

Upon request, different type of ionization chambers (i.e. CENTRONIC IG-1) or different gas fillings can be supplied.
